この中で完全にカヴァーなのが、1/ 4/ 10/ 11です。
1.はトラディショナルな曲でBill Monroe、Everly Brothers、Kentucky Colonels、Jerry
Garcia & David Grisman、最近ではRoger McGuinnも取り上げた有名なものです。
4.はカントリーの名曲ですが、ロックファンにとっては何と言っても Flying Burrito
Brothersのカヴァーが有名ではないでしょうか。オルタモントの悲劇 (The Tragedy
Of Altamont)で知られるコンサートを収録したRolling Stonesの映画『Gimme Shelter』の中で、当日前座を務めたBurritosの演奏シーンを見ることができます。
10.もトラディショナル・ソングでDoc Watsonの名演で有名です。余談ですが70年代にこのタイトルと同じ雑誌がありました。日本にブルーグラス音楽を広めた画期的な雑誌でしたが、80年代に入り惜しくも廃刊になっています。
11.はThe Byrdsの初ライヴ・アルバム『Untitled』の1曲目に収録されていたもの。Clarence
Witeがストリングベンダー付きのテレキャスターで弾くイントロ、しゃくりあげるようなRoger
McGuinnのヴォーカルと魅力たっぷりのナンバーです。 |
